At the northernmost point of tne mainland of Okinawa, there is a rocky mountain with four peaks where a 250 million year old limestone layer has risen and has been eroded by rainwater over a long period of time. This is Ashimui, the first holy land where the goddess Amamikiyo ,who created this island ,landed. I heard rumors that many people witnessed UFOs fly near this summit.
In over 40 sacred places, prayers (Kaminchu) are visiting to worship. Daisekirinzan is located in this Yambaru National Park. It has several well maintained trekking courses of tropical karst terrain. There are many tourist attractions such as unusual rock formations, cycad communities, and giant banyan trees.
In Okinawa, they believe in a god different from Japanese god. Ryukyu language(Uchinaguchi) is also different from Japanese. I can't understand the conversation between the local elderly people . But they are bilingual who understand Japanese. The Ainu language in Hokkaido is in danger of disappearing. In Okinawa, they seem not to speak Ryukyu language very much.
Language is culture. When Ryukyu language is no longer used, traditional performing arts such as Kumiodori, which uses the Ryukyu ancient language, may disappear. I like the relaxed tune of Kumodori, which is typical of southern countries. I hope Okinawans cherish their own culture and keep Ryukyu language as their pride.
